Applications close 16th March

Elucidate is looking at expanding its writers base to increase both the number of articles written and the diversity of topics. We are looking for excellent undergraduate and postgraduate students who share our beliefs about the value of academia.

Applicants will be working directly with the founders, senior academics (mainly ANU) and other writers in a collaborative team environment to publish articles on papers of their interest.

The work is very flexible to the interests and skills of the writer, as personal interest is incredibly important to the success of the long and short-form articles.

Successful applicants will be invited to a social event in week 3 of Semester 1 as an inauguration to the program. In weeks 3, the writers will undergo brief training including editing of already first draft articles. In teams, the writers will then spend weeks 4 to 12 researching, interviewing, writing, and editing long and short articles. The average workload per week for a writer is 2-4 hours with flexibility around exams. As a volunteer you will have considerable flexibility around the hours you work.

Successful applicants will join elucidate as a volunteer for 4-5 months. At the end of the semester, the applicants may permanently join the Elucidate team in a more senior role.

Responsibilities include:

  • Choosing an academic paper to write an article on

  • Collaborating with other writers, Elucidate co-founders, academics and possibly external professionals to build your own understanding of the research

  • Working in small teams to draft, stylise and edit the articles

What we are looking for:

  • Strong written communication skills

  • Attention to detail

  • Open-minded and inquisitive

  • Interpersonal skills, including the ability to work collaboratively

  • Capacity to respond constructively to feedback, and;

  • Passion about the chosen academic areas.

Benefits include:

  • Strong personal branding by publicly displaying knowledge, interest, skills and academic merit

  • Incredible learning opportunity, in the sense of:

  • Understanding a variety of cutting-edge academic research

  • Learning how to express complex ideas in an understandable fashion

  • Collaboration around intellectually challenging (and stimulating) work

  • A deeper understanding of university coursework and research (it’s great preparation if you are thinking about research!)

  • Working with other top students in an elite program

  • Direct collaboration with older research students and respected professors and professionals

  • Able to network with our vast and impressive readership base which consists of CEO’s, private equity founders, investment banking executives and managing directors, consulting partners, hedge fund founders and analysts. Students get exposure to this directly and indirectly.

  • Having fun!

More about elucidate.

Elucidate is a newly founded not-for-profit online media entity that writes and publishes articles about cutting-edge research in academia.

At elucidate, we try to remedy the misinformation and unreliability plaguing our modern world. We seek to share factual, well-researched information that otherwise would not be known in an entertaining and thought-provoking fashion. Incredible knowledge can be gained by reading academic research, but unfortunately, most of it is incredibly inaccessible to wider society.

Elucidate distils select academic papers into long and short-form articles that are a joy to read. These papers delve into fascinating topics such as legal insider trading, crypto fraud, and asset bubbles; they build new economic models and improve our understanding of the world around us. As we grow, we hope to delve into research surrounding computer science, law, politics, science.

We value collaboration and an enjoyable work environment at elucidate.
